Honorary Members are elected by the Euromech Council. They are selected based on a combination of eminent scientific contributions and an exceptional role in the community from the Euromech perspective

In recognition of his profound, seminal contributions to the field of solid mechanics, and of his long and invaluable support to EUROMECH, as a Council member, the Secretary-General of the society, and through his involvement in several EUROMECH committees and events.

Leen van Wijngaarden

The EUROMECH Council unanimously elected Professor L. van Wijngaarden to Honorary Membership of the EUROMECH Society. This was done as a token of the esteem in which he and his work in Fluid Mechanics are held in Europe and in recognition of his long and invaluable support of the work in the EUROMECH Committee and Council, as Chairman of the EUROMECH Fluid Mechanics Committee and as Chairman of several EUROMECH Colloquia.

Werner Schiehlen

The EUROMECH Council unanimously elected Professor W. Schiehlen to Honorary Membership of the EUROMECH Society. This was done as a token of the esteem in which he and his work in Solid Mechanics are held in Europe and in recognition of his work for EUROMECH as a longstanding member of the Council, Chairman of the EUROMECH Solid Mechanics Committee, Chairman of several EUROMECH Colloquia and Conferences and one of the founders of the EUROMECH Society.

Jean Salençon

The EUROMECH Council unanimously elected Professor J. Salençon to Honorary Membership of EUROMECH Society. This was done as a token of the esteem in which he and his achievements in Solid Mechanics are held in Europe and in recognition of his invaluable support of the work in the EUROMECH Committee and in many other scientific committees and organizational bodies and in his role in the founding of the European Journal of Mechanics A and B series.

Egon Krause

The EUROMECH Council unanimously elected Professor E. Krause to Honorary Membership of the EUROMECH Society. This was done as a token of the esteem in which he and his work in Fluid Mechanics are held in Europe and in recognition of his work for EUROMECH by proposing the establishment of the EUROMECH European Turbulence Conferences and by his firm and longstanding support of scientific cooperation in Europe.

Paul Germain

The EUROMECH Council unanimously elected Professor P. Germain to Honorary Membership of the EUROMECH Society. This was done as a token of the esteem in which he and his work in Mechanics are held in Europe and in recognition of his work for EUROMECH as a Committee member in the early phase of EUROMECH when important discussions about the organization of mechanics had to be conducted on a European and international level.

The EUROMECH Council elected Professor W.Fiszdon to Honorary Membership of EUROMECH. This was done to recognize his long and invaluable support of the work in the EUROMECH Committee and of mechanics in Europe more generally and his key role in providing, over many difficult years, a bridge between scientists from Eastern and Western Europe.

The EUROMECH Council unanimously elected Professor H.-H.Fernholz to Honorary Membership of EUROMECH Society. This was done as a token of the esteem in which he and his achievements in Fluid Mechanics are held in Europe and in recognition of his long and invaluable support of the work in the EUROMECH Committee and Council, as Secretary of the Committee, As President and later Vice-President of the society, as Chairman of the EUROMECH Fluid Mechanics Conference Committee, and as Chairman of several EUROMECH Colloquia.

George Keith Batchelor

The EUROMECH Council elected Professor G.K. Batchelor to Honorary Membership of EUROMECH. This was done as a token of the esteem in which he and his work in mechanics are held in Europe and in recognition of his tireless leadership of EUROMECH, as a Chairman of the EUROMECH Committee from the earliest days until 1988.
