The colloquium explores recent advances in shock-wave/turbulence interaction, a key phenomenon especially in high-Reynolds-number and hypersonic flows. Strong compressions in these regimes intensify the coupling between gas thermodynamics and hydrodynamics, potentially leading to thermo-chemical non-equilibrium. The discussion will be organized around two key scientific questions:
- How does increasing stagnation energy modify the coupling between turbulence, shocks, and thermochemical nonequilibrium processes in high-speed flows?
- What are the governing drivers of shock–turbulence interactions from moderate to hypersonic Mach numbers?
Theoretical, numerical, or experimental contributions concerning the interaction of shock waves with homogeneous isotropic turbulence and with wall-bounded turbulent boundary layers will be welcome.
