Obituary Prof. Alfred Kluwick

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the death of Alfred Kluwick, Professor Emeritus of Fluid Mechanics at the TU Wien, who passed away on February 2, 2022.

Alfred Kluwick, Emeritus Professor of Fluid Mechanics at TU Wien passed away on February 2, aged 79.
Alfred was known worldwide for his work on compressible flows, shock waves, and boundary layers based on asymptotic approaches.
He participated very actively in many EUROMECH colloquia and conferences. He also greatly contributed to the bodies of the Society through the European Fluid Mechanics Conference Committee (2002-2007), and then as chair of the EUROMECH Fluid Mechanics Prize & Fellows committee (2008-2013).
Alfred Kluwick was also very much involved in IUTAM (having especially been a Bureau member during four years), and in CISM, where he was a member of the Scientific Council since 2010.
He was the recipient of the 1996 Erwin Schrödinger Prize and was elected member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in 2003.
Alfred will be deeply missed by his friends and colleagues.
