This colloquium will explore one of the new frontiers in metamaterial science: hyperfunctional metamaterials. The term hyperfunctional indicates systems in which the physical and geometric properties depend on additional variables beyond typical periodic spatial modulation. The main focuses of the event will be
- time-modulated systems,
- non-periodic/quasicrystalline meta-structures and
- metamaterials characterised by multiphysics phenomena.
The aim of this event is to bring together leading experts from these fields to foster collaboration and accelerate progress in this emerging area. The discussions will focus on key challenges, such as non-reciprocal wave propagation, anomalous deformation of multiphysics structures, and topological effects in non-periodic media.
